Anyone else in a city where they use LIDAR now? I just rolled down the highway and there were motorcycle cops with lidar. They look like binoculars, but my V1 doesn't pick it up. They had like 3 people pulled over. The only one I could find was this.
Lidar detector is basically the same thing as laser. V1 should detect it, however, it's different than other bands in that it'll only pick it up if you are hit with it. Essentially if you're speeding and get hit, you're pretty much boned.
To beat this, you don't need a detector, but a jammer. I have 2 jammer heads mounted in the mesh on my front bumper. I've jammed a few lasers and it has definitely worked.

I've got a handful of detectors and the Valentine is the best at detecting LIDAR, as verified by independent testing. I've occasionally gotten a warning well before being targeted, from the reflection off of vehicles ahead of me. However, generally if you're targeted you'll know it at the precise moment your speed is being recorded.
It's possible that you weren't being painted by the LIDAR cop. The beam spread of LIDAR is pretty small and, barring a reflected signal, you wouldn't get an alert if other cars were being targeted.
The only real defenses are these: There's a product called Veil that you can paint on your headlights and other reflective surfaces that will drastically reduce your LIDAR signature. Combined with a good detector, this might save your bacon. The only sure way to avoid being tracked is with a good quality jammer, but the use of those is illegal in some states. The ZR3 you linked to is a good product, but Escort has a newer, better performing product in the ZR4. Others are higher rated, though the nice thing about the Escort products is that you can link them to an Escort radar detector.

Highway Patrol here in CA have been using them a lot lately. I've almost gotten busted about 5 times already but got lucky. My V1 picked up the signal on all those instances but the funny thing is that I never got pulled over. I have a feeling they were aiming where my front license plate should be but since I don't have one, they didn't get a good reading cause I was speeding all those times.
On one occasion, I heard the V1 go off and saw the cop on the emergency lane with his lidar pointing right at me. I immediately slowed down and thought I was busted but when I passed him, I saw that he turned and aimed at the rear of my car. At that point, I was already down to the speed limit so he just turned back and aimed at other cars.
Knock on wood....

Now thats what I am talking about and thats why the 9500ci is one great thing I have.
75% of the cops in my area use Lidars and not Radar anymore. I remember this one jerk used both on me and my 9500ci went crazy (lol)
