lci vs pre-lci taillight

My Ride: 08 535i Sport Pkg. Stock, for now...
The reason I ask is because I am looking to tint the taillights. I've found some for pre-lci cars that are somewhat cheaper. What gives. Sorry for my newbness but all the searches yielded retrofit info

My Ride: 2010 535i M Sport 6MT
Model Year: 2010
The light control modules and programming (bulb check) are different. Not plug-and-play. Physical form is identical, however.
