Hi all,
Theres a pair of Lci headlamps on ebay, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/BMW-E60-E61-5-SERIES-LCI-ADAPTIVE-XENON-HEADLAMPS-SPORT_W0QQitemZ180405642871QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item2a0103a677&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14,
My question is, is the seller correct in what he's written about the installation of the headlights,
i.e " YOU CAN USE YOUR OLD CONTROL UNITS AND LAMPS INSTEAD OF THE ONES FITTED

THIS WAY THEY ARE PLUG AND PLAY (IF UPGRADING YOUR PRE FACELIFT ADAPTIVE BI-XENONS)

NO CODEING IS REQUIRED FOR THIS UPGRADE, CODEING ONLY NEEDED IF YOU REPLACE THE REAR LAMPS ASWELL (CARS BEFORE 09/06 WILL NEED NEW LCM FOR THE REAR LAMP UPGRADE) OR YOU CAN GET A BYPASS KIT FROM OTHER SPECIALIST SITES"

So basically if i have Lci tails & Bruce's V6 cables already installed, the headlamps should be pnp if i swap my control units, or is the seller wrong ???

the seller is WRONG! If u have adaptive, it's not going to work. If you dont have adaptive, u need to hack the angel eye wires and make it work or else it doesnt work. Basically, the guy is talking out of his ass. it's not plug and play

Well, Thats interesting. I am the seller of the headlamps, And have worked for bm for 22 years, So when the fitting instuctions only show 4 tracer wires from the rear lamps entering the lcm, Its obvious to me and all the bmw team i work with (over 25 of us), That if you use your original control units there is no coding needed. They will not work for standard xenon lamps only adaptive ones, You only code the rears because of extra led's being added, There are no extra led's in the front lamps than originals. There are no extra wires for the front lamps, All the original wires are used , But fit into a modified plug. So i hope my ass is speaking clearly now !!!

The LCM pin wire configuration has change between pre-LCI & LCI (that's why coding & newer LCM required) ... as far as front lamp yes you have no added stuff but you loose stuff for example pre-LCI has inner hi-beam but LCI has none in place of the hi-beam location is the cornering light, pre-LCI uses 10w parking light (AE) while LCI uses 35w ... speaking 'bout adaptive the LCI has cornering light but the pre-LCI has none ... ahhh that's the additional stuff.

The parking light ... at the very least will result on iDrive error then the hi-beam ...among other things ... then cornering light ... etc ...
For example if the pre-LCI car has the DRL light programmed on and you put the LCI front light where would the DRL light on the new light be? It has no inner hi-beam since the hi-beam is the Bi-Xenon ... now based on your 22 yrs experience in team of 25 since you mention no extra wire & all original wire are used where do you connect the pre-LCI original car hi-beam wire on the new LCI light?

When you mention cornering light, do you mean the headlamp aim moves left to right when the steering wheel is turned (AHL)
Only asking because my pre lci bmw dynamic xenon lights have this feature.

A cornering light is a little different. I'm not 100% sure how it looks/functions on an E60, but a smaller light turns on/off when you turn your steering wheel left/right. It serves to light a brighter pathway around corners or curbs.

Hi, I have just had a look inside a pre facelift active lamp and my lci active lamp. There is a H3 bulb in the top of the headlamp for main beam unit on the lci lamp, But i dont think all lci adaptive xenons have the cornering lamp. I think this is an option. I can see the point about higher wattage side light bulb, But i am thinking of fitting them to a pre facelift and giving it a go. Then i will know either way.
