My Ride: SOLD...Jet Black 2008 550i M Sport with SAT, black interior. RPI exhaust and air scoop, 35% huper optik tint all around, CF roundels, flat black kidneys, Springfield Armory XD-40 jet black in glove box, charcoal filter removed.
Can you guys help me understand this offset stuff...My current set up is stock 172's all around with 5mm spacers upfront and 15mm spacers in the rear. I'm wondering if my new wheels will need spacers or not to get an equivalent look or better to what I currently have on. To me, more of the wheel/tire poking out is good - less is bad.
I went to an offset calculator on the web, one I picked up from this forum at sometime I think, and it calculates the following regarding my new wheels,
Rears: Current are 19x9.5 with a 32mm offset. New forgestars are 19x10 with a 20mm offset. The calculator tells me that the new wheels will have 6mm more clearance on the inside and extend an extra 18mm on the outside.
Fronts: Current are 19x8 with either an 18 or a 20 offset (I've seen conflicting info on this for the stock 172's upfront). New forgestars are 19x9 with a 20mm offset. The calculator tells me that the new wheels (compared to an 18mm offset stock) will have 18mm less clearance on the inside and extend an extra 11mm on the outside. If I use a 20mm offset for the stock 172's, the numbers change to 13mm and 13mm.
So my question is, will this negate my need for spacers all together to get the same look I have now with 5mm spacers upfront and 15mm spacers in the rear? I mean won't the new rears stick out 3mm more than the stock ones with the 15mm spacer and the fronts stick out 6 or 8mm more than stock with a 5mm spacer (depending on stock offset of 18 or 20)?
I'm not so sure that the numbers can be compared like this. Maybe it is that simple? Anyone?
Oh, and in case you need it, this is the calculator I used http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp

Received the wheels today as promised by Nerwyll and Joe at Trinity - excellent job guys, thank you so much.
Pictures of my new wheels:

So whatcha' guys and gals think? Better than the 172's? I really like them more now that I've seen them in person. I never noticed how the 172's are so rounded on the inside edge. The new F14 are layered then flat all the way through. The new ones feel super lightweight too. Can't wait till the install this Friday. I'll post more pics of them once they are installed.
thanks for looking.

I don;t know about "better" but definitely on par, the 172's are really attractive for OEM wheels. Congrats on the new wheels, they are going to look great installed. Excited yet?

Yeah I guess, but I think I'll have my 172's fully repaired and switch from time to time, maybe every time I get new rubber? Nice to have that option, ya know.
That was a quick order to delivery time. I was quoted mid-April when I was inquiring about these which kind of moved these down on my list of potentials. I can't wait to see these on your car. I couldn't find any pics that were silver. Most people seem to have these in black.
Nice choice.
Nice choice.

Just have to know the right people I guess, kidding, I don't know any of these guys personally, but Trinity has been a pleasure to do business with and they haven't left me down yet.
Apparently these wheels just 'happened' to be sitting around, the last set so they say. I snagged them while I could.
Your comment about them being silver is my only concern - they are suppose to be "brushed titanium". Hmmmmm, they look silver and say silver on the box. I'll let Trinity respond to a side email before going there.
