So I think I may able to drop the cash down for my first mod by the end of this summer and I'm really thinking I should go performance mods before anything. This seems to be the cheapest for the most power gain mod, so I think I'll stick to this. The only questions I had were dealing with the reliability of it, i.e. the limp mode stuff.

The car isn't even a year old and I'm afraid of voiding the warranty if something were to go wrong. I know it just pops out before services, but once you hit limp mode, wouldn't it be easy to see what was causing it? I would hate to void the warranty with three plus years left since I didn't exactly buy the car myself and wouldn't have to pay for the repairs if there were to be any.

So I guess my question is how hard does the car need to be driven to induce limp mode, or is that not even a factor?

I have had the JB3 on my 08 535 for about 6 months now, I drive my car pretty hard and have had no issues, (knock on wood).. There is a noticeable power gain but not as much as you would think you would notice..

but definitely recommended...

A friend of mine put one in his blue 335 sedan. That car was crazy fast with this mod. He installed it and would take it into the dealer for work.

the limp mode is most often induced when you drive hard and when the turbo's are not allowed to cool properly. The jb3 has been reported to be diagnostically invisible as well, meaning no warranty/manipulation codes thrown when scanned via BT tool. If you are really concerned about warranty codes you can purchase a Bavarian Tool (BT) to delete any codes yourself. Depending on your build date and SW version you may not need to woory about that as pre 29.2 SW versions do not have tuner/manipulation detection (which is why i can run my jb+ at higher levels and not wory about codes )

Another mistake I have seen members from e90posts and n54tech report is when they run higher maps without the proper fuel. (race maps without race fuel)

A third common mistake is just a bad install, they misplaced a pin (only with the pin out version).

You can purchase the jb3 and/or bavarian tech tool from member mike@n54tuning.com or directly from

http://www.burgertuning.com/

***just to be safe, I would remove your jb3 before bringing your car in for work, as well as keep an extra set of tools in the trunk so you can pull it out if ever you find yourself stranded and needing to get towed into a dealer....

All right, that seems to agree with what I've heard. I don't plan on taking it on the track so I shouldn't have to worry about overheating the turbos.

Well, I think it gives the most without going over a grand. Don't sites show it giving over 400hp with a dual cone and an exhaust? Most people on here have a custom exhaust, and dual-cones aren't too pricey.

most of those numbers are done with 135's and 335's...and a lot of those numbers are with mods including downpipes, FMIC, exhaust, etc...(basically more bolt on parts, not stock + jb3)

the stock box vs CAI debate on e90posts and n54tech will never end....basically if you want it to sound cool, get a DCI, but if you want performance, stick with the stock box

RPI performed a dyno with the Injen DCI vs. stock box...stock box still proved better...

the BMS DCI has been know to throw codes as well on 535i's (i believe it was due to the hot air being sucked in from the engine bay)...again, stick with the stock box and get a drop in filter + scoop...
