iPod v 6 stack CD player?

So, if I want an iPod Aux port, I need to give up my 6 stack CD player. Would you? Am I holding onto the past too much? Is it time to give it up and move with the iPod?
But the iPod has its own disadvantages... song selection, fast forwarding all have to be done manually, while the CD is fully integrated... my BMW dealer says my 6 stacker plays MP3's, but I've not tried it yet... reading some of the posts on this forum it sounds like the dealer hasn't got a clue as MP3 isn't supposed to come until October/November.
Anyway, interested to know people's thoughts... or is it a no-brainer and iPod all the way?

So, what is the definitive response I give the dealer?
Me: Hey mate, you're full of it, supposedly you can have both a CD 6 stacker and an iPod Aux port.
Dealer: No you can't, there's only one aux port for the stereo system so you either have the CD 6 stacker or the iPod aux port.
And my response should be???
My baby is going in this week to have the Aux port installed, and for me, the best scenario would be to keep both, but at a push, I'll give up the 6 stacker.
Jesus Christ how many ways do we need to say it. BOTH co-exist. All of us with a CD changer that added Aux Input still have BOTH. Show him the bulletin that u undoubtedly found by doing the proper search in the mods forum.
You are ADDING a source, not replacing one. This is an E60, not an E39 or E46. Tell them to get with it.

You should pull your head out of your rear old man, sure, you've posted 1,2xx messages, but it doesn't mean you have the right to talk to others in that sarcastic and degrading tone. Anyway, whatever, but thanks for the last paragraph of your message, that's all you needed to say.
JC3 I think his "anger" is aimed at the dealers, not you...I can understand the frustration that the AUX In port can bring. Dealers at this point in time are the only way to get the input fitted, its not a factory fit part. I cant speak for the rest of the world, but here in the UK they (dealers) dont have a clue about this simple upgrade.
They confuse it with an IPOD interface which doesnt exist, when you send them the installation notes avilable on this forum, they get embarrased cos thay dont have them, and then when they do fit it, they dont read the instructions (particularly section 6 - PINOUTS ) and make you go back 3 times and then anounce that they have identified that the pinouts were wrongly conected.....no you dont say mister dealer!!!!
See now I'm blowing a fuse..remember this forum can be great therapy
Oh yeah you can have both CD stacker and AUX in...enjoy your car and use this forum to out gun the dealers, its amazing how informed it is
Sorry, after midnight and the Gators lost
But really directed at dealers who keep giving out bum info. Would have expected that as long as the E60 has been out now that we would not still run into this amount of mis-information from dealers. Here are a couple of pics of iDrive with CD Changer running and Aux selected.
In any case, if u have not found the bulletin, here it is:

Your dealer is wrong.? The CD changer will not play native mp3 files, even when the s/w update does come along in November.
MP3 support will be limited to the in-dash CD

Well... even after all the literature provided to my BMW dealer, I've been told that in Australia, it is not possible to have the two.
The service guy has said that North America and Europe use a different radio system to ours and he's consulted the national BMW service manager and he's confirmed that its not possible. I pointed out that the Australian BMW website specifically says that it is possible to have both (www.bmw.com.au - services - iPod your BMW - what do I need) and the national BMW service manager told my service guy that he wasn't even aware there was information on the website about it!
The kicker is that there's no contact information for BMW Australia... only dealerships.
Oh well, iPod it is!
Thanks for all the info though guys!
JC.

The other responses were "I'm not sure" so there seems to be a lack of communication between BMW Australia and the service guys... which makes me worried what sort of level of knowledge we're getting here in Australia when it comes to getting our car serviced! Poor show BMW Australia...
I second that caution. Forgot to mentioned that here as we have in other threads for folks having troubles with dealer comprehension. Do not use the word IPOD - carries a different meaning to many dealers. They focus on IPOD instead of what this actually is ? AUX INPUT ? any audio source as an input, even a 300 CD changer if ya got it
