Hey guys...I am going to order the IPOD adaptor from Garry soon and I just wanted to know how many people in the NYC tristate area got their car just programmed to turn on the feature.

What did you pay solely for programming? Where did you go? Who is the SA? Anything I should tell them or show them?

What year car do you have? Do you know which software version is loaded on your car?

2004 530i....12/03 build date with CD changer prep option installed. Local dealer around my job said it could be installed in my car, but his quote was roughly $800??? I have no idea what software I have. What shoudl I look for?

If you have the CD changer cables, all you need is 'current' software (Progman V23.x or higher, I believe). Is the $800 for the iPod adapter AND the install or just the install? Either way, it's a RIPOFF!! If you can find out the software version on your car (unfortunately only your dealer can tell you that with their diagnostic equipment) and have a recent version, then install the adapter yourself. VERY EASY!!!!! and will save you several hundred dollars for a 30 minute DIY. If you go this route, I can post a link to the DIY on M5Board. Good luck.

If 'prep' means you have the cable that's supposed to attach to a CD changer, then yes, you shouldn't need to visit the dealer.
