I'm actually upset with all the mp3 and iPod story and officialy opened a claim to BMW customer service.



Seller promised when I bought the car that mp3 was standard, and then the disappointing thing everybody knows... business radio, pre/post some strange date, etc.



BTW my software is now at 22.2 level.

 

Thanks for the update JMB...damn, it does look like there are some further dependencies.

I wonder what would happen with the interface in my case, business radio, no NAV but working 6CD changer and no CIP updates. Until we can order the interface in the UK I can only guess at this combo.

Like you I feel annoyed, I though I'd get MP3 with dash CD drive but that didn't happen. Still waiting two years later for an IPOD interface that does something approaching the one I had working in my E39! This is not the technology leadership I was expecting.

in my area (nord-east Italy) my dealer isn't able to install the iPod interface ! He tried for 3 (!!) days but the coding isn't succeful !
Now he excuse me and ask to wait for some new from BMW.... any idea?

p.s. my car is E61 12/2004 with AUX IN installed after and no cd charger.

Maxbox, can't tell from your sig, do you have Nav or not? Us early adopters who didn't spec Navigation will have the Business radio rather than Pro radio unless we specifically upgraded. I was told by BMW owners with business radio cannot and will not ever be able to play mp3 files from the dash CD. The suspicion now is that the new IPOD interface also may have some issues with this business radio. That might be why the interface is only supported from MY 03/05 and later. In NA I beleive this was when all E60s started having the Pro radio as standard.

I see two options for us:
1) wait for BMW to update the I-Drive and see if they then announce
support for earlier models like ours
2) monitor the board and see if anyone gets lucky with a MY04 or earlier car and gets it working with bus radio installed. This doesn't look promising now.

 

Update will be in Progman release 23 later this month.

Agreed thats probably good news for you then, you'll have the pro radio and it is just a case of waiting for the update.

 

Anytime u see reference to an e63/e64 in the US it is ALWAYS with iDrive, PRO NAV and PRO Radio. Only way they are sold in US.
