Can it be? They're asking more then $1,000 for the iPod interface to iDrive . Also, they say it will take one full working day to complete the job. Anyone?

I believe Dension is working on a iPod interface that will be compatible with iDrive and cost around $300. I have Ice>Link from them in my Z3 and it works like a dream.

The part is only about $300-400, but installation cost is high. If dealer charge you 3 hours, it's equivalent to $510 already + $400 (part) = $910. Tax = 8.25% => $985. Wow, dealer over charge $15

Well, that's too much for iPod adapter.

Holy cr@p! That enough to buy a 60GB ipod video, the tv unit from navwithtv, an ipod dock to connect to it and control your ipod with, and still leave you with over $100 left... Uh oh, did I just let out my ipod connectivity secret. Seriously, if it's a grand, I don't know why anyone would buy it. I'll post some pictures when I get home of what my setup is going to look like. Unless I've lost my mind I should be able to see and scroll through all of the tracks on my ipod and watch video on my ipod through my idrive screen. The only downside is I'm going to have a remote to control the ipod, not the idrive controller. But I can live with that.

Why not using MP3 player? You don't have to store all crapy song on MP3 CD. Just store those you like the most.
CD changer is good for 50-60 songs, MP3 CD player is good for ~100 songs, DVD MP3 player is good for 400-500 songs. Why do we need iPod controller if it's more than $300-400? It does not make any sense.
In addition, you'll lost your CD changer

Not sure how different new interface will be, but I have connected Ice>Link in less than 40 minutes in my garage, and that's including taking of panels, routing wires, and putting everything back together.

I don't like messing around with CDs. DVDs work well yes, but I already have a 60GB ipod that my girlfriend got me so why not use it? I just got an ipod dock with remote off ebay for like $50, and then once Dom gets the tv unit with idrive control set up I'll be good to go. It's only going to end up costing me $550 and I'll be able to have 3 different video inputs + a backup camera on my idrive screen, I just like the way that sounds more than using a DVD or a CD. But you are right, it would be way cheaper your way.

Well, I would have posted pictures of what my set up would have looked like, but the ipod dock I got doesn't work properly so now I have to return it and try to get a new one.
