yes software version 23.01 worked correctly with the interface and then version 23.02 did not....and people were told to wait for an upgrade... version 24 is released, it was mostly to address the eyebrows not working on version 23.02 but im dont know if they also repaired the interface problem...
The interface problem was corrected with 23.02 but problems arse with the eyebrows and the DRL's.

My Ride: 2004 525i, Titanium Silver, Gray Leather, Premium Package, Steptronic trans, xenon adaptive headlights, sat. prep, no navigation, bluetooth, ipod adapter
I think I finally got the real answer on an ipod interface for my 03/04 build 525i without navigation. I obtained a copy of a dealer bulletin number 65 06 06. It said that the ipod interface will only work on vehicles without navigation from 03/05 on, and on vehicles with navigation from 09/05 on. I thought I was out of luck. But, there was a name and number at the top of the bulletin. I called the number and the guy picked up. He was a nice guy, and happen to be the manager for BMW accessory development. He explained to me that he wrote that bulletin, which is meant for dealers because of constant changes, knowing that in 30 days things would change. There is now a new dealer bulletin, number 65 08 06, which indicates that any e60 built from 09/03 on will work with the ipod interface.
I called my dealer and asked the parts man to look up the bulletin. He did, and yes indeed it states that any e60 built after 09/03 will work with the ipod interface. The only restrictions are it must be a newer generation ipod. It also states it will work with or without navigation.
I am not sure when they started production on the 2004 e60, but if it was 09/03, that means the interface will now work on all e60s with or without navigation. I will be going in to have mine installed in the next couple of weeks. Now my only worry will be if the software update they put on my car is the one that is having trouble with the ipod interface. :'(
