My Ride: On order for November Delivery - 550 !!!! - Currently own 1999 E39 540, sport pkg, premium sound pkg, black on black. Previous owner of 2000 M Coupe, 1996 328is, 1984 633csi, 1982 528e, and wifed owned 1999 528 touring and 2002 525 touring. Looking at buying 545 or 550 in fall of 2005.
I just got the new 60gig Ipod for my birthday from my wife and went to price the install.
I want the unit wired into the aux in the storage unit between the front seats. At the suggestion of my brother-in-law, I went to a place that is supposed to do a good job of this.
The quote came to $629. This includes $150 for the aux install at Beverly Hills BMW. So the Ipod part of the install is roughly $479, which includes labor and various cables. How can it be so expensive? I am not even getting a bracket mount. Just a cable from inside the center console so that I can operate the Ipod in my hand while driving and place it inside the storage unit. This cable charges the Ipod and allows it to play through the cars audio system. Anyone in LA know a less expensive install place??

Thanks for this, but I'm all thumbs with this kind of DIY stuff. The most I do is change out lightbulbs in my house.
So, I'm still in need of a good and affordable installer, thanks again.

All you get and all you need is the aux input and a couple of cables for ?15.
I spent a bit more (?40) on a non damaging bracket and cradle for my ipod.
I cannot imagine IN ANY WAY what would justify the costs you are talking about.
Get the aux in fitted, buy some leads from amazon and search this forum for info on mounts.

I bought the Monster IcarPlay and plugged it in the lighter jack under the dash then ran the cable into the glovebox. I keep the ipod in there and I use an Ipod remote to control it. It actually sounds good. I've tried different FM transmitter but the Monster one beats them all. You can do that for less than 100 bucks.
