I recently purchased the lead to connect my ipod to my idrive for my 2005 525. The lead cost about ?30 and when I asked BMW how much it would cost to fit it they helpfully informed me that they could do it for the princely sum of ?350 plus vat!!! I mean, how hard can it be? Has anybody fitted one of these leads and if so is it reasonably straight forward or I am better off just buying an FM transmitter for the Ipod?

Cheers

John Hi

I am having this ?350 option fitted on Tuesday next to my 2005 525. It is important to remember that this includes the necessary Progman update to the latest version (normally about ?212 on its own).

What you get basically above the transmitter type option is your iPod tucked away in the glove box charging and have your Albums/Artists/Tracks displayed on your iDrive monitor and controlled by your iDrive controller.

The other similar option is the Dension 500 and there are other lesser options.

cheers

Alan

No idea what you could have purchased for ?30 that's compatible with MOST cars. Please clarify.

On the 2005 car there was no USB 6FL or iPOD connection. So I think you picked up the iPOD cable that is used on the newer cars. You need to get the iPOD interface installed and in that case you wont need that ?30 cable. Look into the Dension or other such devices too, although not BMW OEM they provide far superior functionality than the BMW OEM iPOD interface.

Hi there,

Thanks for the feedback - I'd be interested to hear how you get on with it and what the functionality is like - When I spoke to BMW they told me that I would only be able to turn the volume up and down using the "car" controls and that track selection etc would have to be done via the i-pod.

Regards

Its the "Retrofit auxilary connector", part number 65 12 0 153 502 purchased directly from BMW....does that help?

Your cable is just a dummy stereo connector (for jack plug). You can connect any sound device to it, and you get only the sound through it.
You can install it yourself, but the dealer must at least "enable" the function for your car (programming).

Bear in mind that the oem aux retrofit kit has a filter which you may want to remove.
