Ok, then you're car needs programming. Check if you have a Professional radio (I believe it's option code 663, but I'm not completely sure). You should be able to have the Ipod interface mounted.
Perhaps you should call another dealer?

In my option list there are no options regarding the Radio, so i think it must be at Professional, absolutly standart spec.

I find it amazing how people can work all day everyday with these cars and still hobby mechanics like ourselves needs to educate them on what's possible and not...I had the same problems with my ipodkit. Crappy low end stereo and no CD changer. The first place I tried could not get the programming right, and I later noticed that they unplugged pretty much the whole kit and left it behind the glove compartment....even cut the zipties to the control unit so it was all loose and sliding around in there....For fun I asked if they could fit bluetooth phone and navigation, of course that was impossible as well. Fvckin morons...
2nd try (another BMW shop) was a walk in the park though. Left car in shop on the way to work and before lunch it was programmed and functioning flawlessly, and yes it's a MY05 so if your shop still can't get it working they need to book themselves on some training programme in Munich :-)!
GL with your installation!

I-Pod and AUX-in is two hole different matters , I-Pod sound signal comes in the M-ASK/CCC throug LVDS cable and use the same "in-put" as the CD-changer , that's way you can't have I-Pod and CD-changer at the same time in your car ( all the music data text etc. come in by the LVDS signal ) , the AUX-in signal comes in the M-ASK/CCC throug "wire's" ( just like in the "good" old E39/E46/38 & E53's ) , so you can have both ! , in my car I got CD-Changer and AUX-in ( for the DVD-changer ) , so made , no problem

you can buy a sepertate alpine module that connects to your 6 disk changer lead , this must be programmed in and will not work with the ipod touch but will still work with stering controlls.
With compleet track listing ? isn?t that only play list that works that way ?
