Where did you get your extension male to female adaptor?
Here you go.

I tried the Cablejive website but seems to be blocked at work or not working. I also took apart the end that plugged into the ipod and took out the teeth so i can just unplug it with out holding the side teeth.

Wow. 32 bucks + shipping?? Oh well, I guess that's the price you pay for 'custom'.... Did you use the USPS First Class method of shipping for 4 bucks?

You might be able to find the cable on ebay for cheaper, just make sure its the same company. And yes, i used the cheapest shipping one.

Thanks. I have a bid in for the 6ft cable.

I am going to TRY to fit my universal dock into the ashtray. I won't know if it really fit until I dremel out all the old bondo from the ashtray holder (not the ashtray, the molding that the ashtray fits in).

Can someone with a universal dock check and see if it fits where the ashtray would normally go? As in be able to close the ashtray with it glued in there.

I want to somehow fit the Apple Universal Dock into there so that I can have the ability to use different dock inserts (to be compatible with the next iphone that comes out, for example).

Sorry to revive this topic, but I've searched and searched and can't seem to find answers to my questions...

Assuming I have the OEM BMW Ipod Adapter in my glovebox already...

1. how long of an extention cable do I need? 2ft, 3ft, 6ft?

2. how do I route the cable to the ashtray region?

3. Where does the charging adapter get plugged in? Middle between the adapter and extension, or at the dock?

Thanks in advance.

The 2point5 dock is available with a female ipod plug tail, which is about 15 inches long. The iPod cable you have in your glovebox should reach just fine. The charging adaptor you have would go between the Alpine BMW ipod adaptor cable and the female dock cable, so it would be hidden.

Prior posts on this thread raised the issue of iPhone with case not fitting in adapters (too thick). My spec dock came with a white insert for use with a bare iPhone. My iPhone has a hard case on it and I found that if I took out the white insert, the iPhone would fit onto the spec dock just fine with the case left on it it... If I did not use the case, then I would want to snap the white adapter back in. Just an FYI...

So it sounds like I only need the charging adapter and the ashtray dock, but how do I route the cable so it is hidden? Does the glovebox cable come out the bottom and run along the floor to the ashtray? Are there any pictures or instructions?
