I finally got started on mine. I still need to modify the metal ring so it will fit back on the ashtray. I kinda just slapped it together and it needs to be sanded down and re painted. I was also considering just wrapping it in vinyl. Total cost so far is $26.

The White at the bottom is just the original protective film peeling away after 2 years of use.

Damn that looks sweet. I'd love to do that but i think it would clash with the wood grain. Maybe you could try modifying the metal ring to fit over it. Just grind off the inner lip and cut off the little tray part so its just a rectangular ring. I think it would add that little extra umph to put it over the top.

I just wanted to mention that another option would have been to purchase the two parts you used (the CableJive Dock Extender Cable and the Scosche Passport), then send us the CableJive piece and we would have integrated it into a drop-in spec.dock for you at a price of $100. The spec.dock for the E60 that is priced at $189 includes these two pieces, and would have allowed you to switch out the Apple Universal Dock Inserts to accommodate any size iPod or iPhone - not just the iPhone as you have constructed your piece. Lastly, I'm a little concerned about the angle you chose for the iPhone, as all of our products are designed with a 5 to 15 degree backward "lean" for in-car stability. That all being said, we appreciate ambition and hard work, as that is how we got to the point we are in the first place! Whether or not to purchase a spec.dock from our company comes down to a decision of how much the customer's time is worth to them. It takes a great deal of time to fabricate something like this yourself (even if you are a professional), while it takes about 45 minutes to install a spec.dock! Good luck with your project, and thanks for mentioning our product in your original post...

How did you get access to underneath the ashtray? I can remove the metal insert but cannot figure out how to get the sliding drawer to come out.
Do you really need to remove the wood fascia to the dash?.... -Ken

hey matt@2point5, How about an E60 forum member special on your dock kit? 40% off would make me a 'buyer'. As I see it ... $60 for your dock + $50 for the cable and power converter would be right about fair. Your product is great ... just a bit too expensive. Maybe you could do this as a 3 day special to get a bunch of these out into our hands for 'review'

that would be a great deal, but I'm sure it'll be tough for them to discount the product.

Hope he can accomodate. This is a great option for the Iphone 3g with Ipod integration kits.

Magic!!

j/k.

I connected to the Ipod integration box. I bought the 3G adapter so the power can charge. And the bought an extender so that i can unplug and plug this cable that is in the ashtry.

I then used epoxy to set the cable solid there.
