thanks man.

And no, didn't come with a dock. lol. Also, I use my g/f's Ipod and my old nano sometimes with the car dock, so if I used the 3g dock, no other things would fit. figured it would be universal.
Ahh.. I c. Great call!!!

updates? I just ordered my cable and i found a dock adapter plate in one of my many boxes of discarded electronics. LOL. I decided to rock my sony MD player. The sound quality is way superior to the ipod but unfortunately my radio won't recognize the usb signal.

Talking

I hate to tell you this after you went through all that trouble but someone makes a better version of your dock. By the way it is patented as well but I do not think anyone will sue you. Check out 2point5.com they can install a gateway 500 into the dock and ship it out to you, if you specify they will use the blue ipod cable that will work with iPhone and iPhone 3G. I believe the cost is $600 plus shipping. Also if you send them the oem cable they can install that into a dock for you before you install it if you prefer the ash tray dock to the glove box.

I didn't want to buy this item,

http://stores.homestead.com/2point5/-strse...0V2I/Detail.bok
A premade dock / plastic piece that costs $180-190 dollars. That's just ridiculous for a piece of plastic!! cmon now!

So i was thinking, I can definitely make one a lot cheaper.

...no?...

OK, somehow I read the post but missed the website since 2point5 was buried in the middle of the link. All I saw was www.homestead something or other. I did not realize that he was comparing his dock to the same one I was thinking of. Well anyway, for me the price should not be thought of as "$150 for a piece of plastic" You have to realize how few of these they are going to sell, also that for you to go out and pay a pro to make one for you it would cost closer to $400 to $600 dollars just for "the stupid piece of plastic." By the way when I said the thing would be iPhone 3G compatible I meant the cable. As far as the dock goes you can swap the insert out for any ipod you want. The white Apple insert that comes sized for your iPod will fit in the SpecDock. I guess the one he built himself was not made to be interchangeable between iPod models.

Ok....

Just to let yah know, the dock actually fits all ipods, except the shuffle. I used the big dock so that all the Ipod's and iphones will fit. My g/f has a 30gb video so I use her ipod sometimes and my iphone sometimes.

The whole point of the thread was that this was an alternative to pay $239 dollars for the 2point5 dock. I'm sure its a great item, but, Wouldn't you get more self satisfaction by making something yourself, having it work, than paying top dollar for it?

No hard feelings, but there's some confusion in the replies.

I know your right about the price, if you can do it yourself then why not.
