My Ride: E60 530i
Default

It has alomst been one year since I had e60 530i as my daily ride~

I really love this car esp. the performance and the look!

but, the HP seems not enough.....coz its just 225HP,

and not the new 250HP engine

since it is 2005.

Therefore, I am looking for a intake to gain more HP and have the sound! hehe..

I only saw GruppeM one for e60, which cost around $1500.00 something

and it give like 9 extra HP.

The reason why I open this topic is because I would like to know more info

and see some pics of intakes on ur e60!

thank you so much for sharing~

the powerchip sounds good, shouldn't we wait for dinan or any other north american bmw specialist with dealers in the states?

What if it comes back faulty or connection tips are damaged? How do you explain that to the dealer? how do you even get the car back to the dealer?

I would shy away from soldered on chips. I had an APR chip on my 2003 audi A4 and it was great for a year. I started to have car problems one day and I could make the car stall when i tapped on the ecu. The dealer was amazing and saved me over $1200 on a new ecu but I wouldnt count on that again.

The only software I would ever run now would be a flash and not tamper with the ECU physically. Learn from my mistakes.

[/quote]Personally, I am waiting on Dinan for intake and possibly ECU programming for my 545i. I want to do as much as I can to forestall warranty problems. So, I have everything installed by my BMW dealer--that is Dinan certified.

And, WELCOME sufu.

Are you seriously willing to pay $1500 for a mere 9 extra HP?

Do you actually think you can feel the difference of 9 extra HP -- even if it is all 9 at the rear wheels?

There are so many better ways to gain extra speed/power from your car than swapping out an intake. Heck, you're better off tweaking the CAI from the E39 M5 and swapping it with the OEM in your 530i ....

Powerchip is located in Los Angeles area... but funny... I read the description but didnt compute that it used SMT... I had experience with their E39 M5 tuning and that was a ECU reprograming... so I figured it was the same for the E60 too.. WEIRD!

Sufu,

what you might think of doing is chaging your wheels to something around 20 lbs each - which is going to shave off about 40lbs and increase you hp at the wheels - perhaps replace the flywheel with a dinan (also lighter and an incrase of hp), then replace for a lighter exhaust - with BMW's its a mixed sum gain.

Since you can't just throw a supercharger in there, although you never know in the future, its a constant lightning of the car and expensive tuning just to reach 2006 550 hp status or in your case 2006 530 hp gains.

Anyway, I like the cold intake idea, we just have to wait fr dinan or another reputable manufacturer to invent!

Yes, and do PS2's; they are very light. Check out Mind Candy .... I am not sure about the lightweight flywheel idea at least for straight-line performance. On many cars, in a straight line, the car feels faster initially, but get through the 1/4 slower. Do you have a Steptronic? Can't remember. But, you can't get the light flywheel for the Step.

Since you can't just throw a supercharger in there, although you never know in the future, its a constant lightning of the car and expensive tuning just to reach 2006 550 hp status or in your case 2006 530 hp gains.

Me too, but Dinan only for me--and not $1,500 for one.
