So I decided to remove the charcoal filter earlier this week and ended up ordering the new K&N filter to replace the stock, orange filter. Definitely a noticeable difference and sound from the car. I'm sure it's much greater with the 550, but not a bad mod for $50. Next up, remap of the ECU by Superchips.

Just thought I'd share.
I just removed the charcoal air filter and installed the K&N air filter on my 545i.

First impression is that at full throttle it is more responsive and noticeable compared to stock. As for the sound, it is also noticeable. It sounds kind of throaty at full throttle. Now thinking may be I should go for the Dinan CAI later.

Go for Dinan exhaust ($1400) which is wayy cheaper than Hamann. It's even more expensive if you don't have Mtech bumper.
Exhaust ~$2200 (include shipping)
Defuser ~$800 (WTF)
Mkit bumper+paint ~$700

It's a replacement for the main filter. you DON'T WANT any type of charcoal filter at all!
Take out the charcoal, and replace the main one with K&N =)

it's for the main, stock, orange filter. lose the charcoal filter and swap the stock orange air filter for the K&N and you're set.

My530i, I do have the M-Tech kit. I was actually considering whether I should now get the Dinan cold air intake or not.

As for the exhaust, it is already in the works.

Thanks.

I just installed the K&N filter and noticed a "slight" improvement in throttle response and smoother acceleration. Thanks for the inexpensive mod reccommendation.
