Anyone getting this done in Northern California please post prices so we can zero in on the lowest price and motivate the other dealers to get on board with a reasonable price.

Aloha,
For car w/o CD changer, it'll cost ~ $80 for activation after complaining about something and has software update.
For car w/ CD changer, it should be $0 as DIY

Folks, I am in the NY/NJ area and recently installed the new ipod interface unit behind my glove compartment (its actually very easy to DIY - post a request if you'd like instructions). I called my dealer to find out what they'd charge to update the software and he quoted me $250 - which I frankly find absolutely ridiculous!

What have others out there paid for the software update component of the installation?
I 've had the interface installed with update, but there was some kind of defect from the interface. The Ipod didn't work properly, so next week I'm bringing the car in for another interface and again a new software update. I hope the thing will work next time. The are charging me ?400,- (incl. vat), but I'm not paying before it works perfectly as it should.

Please help me with the instructions.
I don't want to pay my dealer the $400 he's asking to install this thing either.
I bought the "New Ipod Connection" unit and have it in-hand.

I have a new 2007 530i, (just yesterday) that should be the latest version of the car - It has Nav, Sat Radio, Prem Sound/Logic7 and no cd changer. The Video screen doesn't list a CDC (cd changer), only the regular CD player.
The window sticker says that the CD Changer harness is there - but I need to find it.

There's a hatch at the back of the glove compartment, but I still don't see the optical cables (yet)

Hopefully if I hook the IPOD up it will show the appropriate menus on the car IDrive screen

I'd really appreciate the help.

Thanks.

There is a looped cable in the opening where the CD changer would go. It's wraped in black cloth tape. That's the optical cable that's connected with a rectangular block. This connector is what you must undo to get the ends of the optical cable. Search here for photos. Then there is a small plug just to the left of where the changer would go. You'll need that harness as well.

Chances are that you'll need to have the dealer tell your car that the changer/iPod adapter is installed. But it won't hurt to plug it in if you want to do it yourself and see if magic happens.
