I deleted the charcoal filter and installa k&n filter about 2 weeks ago. I got the 'increased emissions warning about 7 days ago. I switched back to stock for about a day and the code didn't clear. I brought it in to BMW today and the y told me it was 'getting too much air.' They think it's a bad valve somewhere. I did a search and couldn't find anything. Any ideas? Has anyone else gotten error codes from a K&n filter?

thanks,
will

I got the same message, after about 1 or 2 i installed the kn filter and charcol delete. It went away after a week. Got it once again after that, but it was because of a faulty gas cap...

I've done the samething but never got any code. So maybe it is a bad valve, good luck

I've done the same Mods and have had NO error messages, so perhaps it is something else coincidentally?? Good Luck with the diagnosis!

Will, I had the same warning on my old 545 but did not have the K&N filter. It turned out to be a bad seal on the gas cap allowing air into the tank. Message was sporadic so hard to diagnose. At first Peake said I wasn't tightening the gas cap properly...

thanks for the replies. I'll let y'all know what the problem was. I'm also getting the trim around the ignition replaced b/c it's peeling. Thedealer was nice enough to give me a loaner, even though I didn't purchase the car from them. They gave me a little bit of a hard time, but i just told them that they gave me a loaner car last time I brought it in for service. The SA looked it up to verify that i did indeed get a loaner car in the past and OK'd the loaner . I think the loaner car policy is dumb to begin with!

Turns out it was a bad diverter valve.
