You would need to learn coding. Start there. Is there a specific reason you want to upgrade?

Assuming you've already tried coding MP3 and it didn't work (i.e. you have the brown screen idrive), you need to take in into the dealers, or buy an ICOM cable and update it yourself, or send your idrive to someone that can update it

the version that can play MP3s is the grey home screen idrive

I believe I do have the grey home screen I drive.. I'll have to check tomorrow.. I just remember burning a data cd with some software (I forget the name) and it didn't work but a wav cd worked.. I'm not familiar with all the cd formats and how they work so maybe it can play MP3 already and I'm just stupid lol.. Well I guess I'll burn some tomorrow and see how it goes.. Thanks for the input

Most likely MP3 is not enabled and can be done by any BMW specialist using Autologic computer or NCSExpert etc.

I have an 04 525 with the brown idrive screen, I was wondering how simple it would be to update the version I have to at least the next newest one? I definantly like the way the newer one looks compaired to what I have now, I know where there is a wrecked 2007-08 525i I was wondering if it would be poss to pull the system out of that and put it into my car? granted I can learm the coding how hard is the actual hardware part of doing this?

This is what I am about to order for wife's recently bought '07 530i with 43,000 miles...Just put in your Vin # and it gives you all the options from upgrading the screen resolution to rear view to front camera to HD streaming...
