Whether I'm using my 2nd Gen Nano, or a flash drive in the USB port, it seems that the screen stops working after 5-6 songs. The music keeps playing, but the screen either stays hi-lited on a song, shows only a partial playlist, or says it can't read the drive(even though the music keeps going).

Anyone else have this problem??

I haven't had that problem with either my flash drives or my USB hard drive. One small problem I've seen is that often times when you restart the car (after having listened to the USB source) the screen sort of stays on "reading data" with no audio coming from the speakers.

I've found that if you press the volume knob (mute) three times, the screen will populate with the tracks, etc. and the music will play immediately -- just where you left off the last time you listened to that source (even if it was unplugged.) I guess the three mutes sort of wakes it up and kicks it in the ass...

I've had something similar happen a few times playing CD's. It keeps playing, but the iDrive will not do anything (can't go to different menus or change tracks). If I try again after a while it is back to normal. Will have the dealer check it out next time I'm in for service.

I will try this next time it happens. I've email my salesperson and he said that it might be because some of my mp3's are a higher bitrate than 128 kbps. I find that hard to believe that the system can't play songs with, say a 192 kbps rate.

thanks,

The system can certainly play 192 kb/s bitrate songs, I do it all the time. I'm not sure how much higher it will go -- the manual warns about bitrates higher than 256 kb/s...

from reading this thread, ive noticed this is a common problem, i get that also, sometimes my entire idrive (no matter which header im under) it just sticks and doesnt do anything for a while, it goes back to normal once i turn the car off, however if i try to turn the display off, it will not go, so turning the car off is the only way.

I bet many E60 Owners get this. I dont think its a default, but the idrive working overtime, so responding slower

Well, no luck. The screen locked up on me again today. I tried turning it off and on several times, but it stayed highlighted on one song. It's too bad the BMW doesn't have cntl-alt-del or some other way of resetting.

I will ask the service guys to look at it the next time the car is in, but this might be something I have to live with. Too bad.

If you have navigation, then you do have a cntl-alt-del feature. You need to press the volume knob, the CD eject button, and the DVD eject button at the same time.

If you don't have nav, I think you're SOL...

Maybe it's the VBR's that are on there. Next chance I get, I'll take them off and see if it makes a difference.
