My Ride: 535D Sport Auto
Asked my dealer today about having an I-pod socket fitted and they said no, can't be done, however they did also say that BMW are currently working on software to allow it in the future. 
I thought I'd seen members cars with them fitted on this forum! Anyone know anything about this? I'm confused

My dealers fitting an Aux input for me which allows any mobile device (Ipod, Ipaq) to connect into the system, cant see any info on the screen other than AUX, but all of the MP3 info is visible on your device anyway....

Almost any E60 can have a regular AUX/mini-jack-input fitted. This will however not make it possible to communicate with the attached device though anything else than its own interface.

Thanks for that guys! My dealer must have got the wrong end of the stick. I only want the socket. I'm booked in for a software upgrade so I'll sort it out then.

Your dealer is confusing the iPod connector (available on some BMW models, but not the E60 yet) with the aux input. Here's the aux input install instructions, and a post with my hardwire install:

Thanks again! My dealers parts dept said that the lead and stuff cost about ?40 which I think are the parts shown on your download. It was their sevice dept that said it couldn't be done! :thumbsdown:

Mines going in to have the Aux fitted on Thursday. My dealer up to the service manager denied such a thing existed until I quoted him the part number and threatened to go to a dealer who knew what they were talking about. Coopers in Croydon by the way.

Is there an ETA for when the Ipod connect will be available on the E60? To be able to control it via the steering wheel would be spectacular! As Aux input, you still have to control the tracks/selections via the Ipod itself, right?

Dropped the car off this morning for the Aux input to be fitted and for them to look at some gltches in the I-Drive software......... 
Was told it would be ready by 4pm (UK). They just rang me to see that following the Aux fitting they would have to 'reprogramme' the car and this would take an extrea day!. I asked if they would be upgrading the I-Drive software to 'iron out' the glitches and the service advisor hadn't even considered it. She is going to discuss it and let me know.
I get the feeling this is going to turn into a saga............
P.S. They explained that they didn't know what the Aux Input was when I first enquired because they know it as an I-POD connector!
