Is the control in the Ecu up to 09/05?
If it is,, thats depresing news for all of as with pre. 09/05

it completely depends on what you want in terms of functions in the M5 mirrors. If you want the folding then you are going to have to code the door modules for coding. I don't know if a US car will take the coding for the folding or not. But its actually quite easy to mod the post 09/05 mirrors to make them work in the pre 0905 car.

thanks for your input bruce but its the key fob folding im really after i guess we wont know unless i try thing is when i try if it don't work i would have gutted and cut wires and harnesses for nothing then i would have to try and assemble everything back to the way it was and sell the mirrors so i don't lose out

In which case, your first step it to confirm if you can code the door modules in the US to have the folding feature. If there is anyone in the US who can confirm that they have been able to code their door modules on a pre-Sep 09 car to get the mirrors to fold then you have some hope. Otherwise it may actually mean that you may have to change the spec of your car from US to EU and then you can definitely do it.

do you mean 05? if it is 09 I see youtube videos of people with US lci non m5 cars getting powerfold to work via keyfob so we definitely know those cars can be coded, I just haven't got anyone to confirm they did it on their 04 besides member rizbel told me he did it plug and play with 06 mirrors on his 04 car but I'm a bit confused as to how he even got 06 mirrors to fit on a 04 car but the point is he did code it. however i'm still not convinced it will work for me because he didn't do a ecu transplant but here is a copy of our convo if it will help.

1. since you used 06 m5 mirrors on your retrofit I'm assuming you transplanted the ecu and wires from you original mirror and put them into the m5 mirror.
Everything was plug-n-play, with no parts taken from the original stock side mirrors.

2. do you remember exactly where did you connect the yellow and white wires from the fold motor ive read to plug them into the the connector with 6 pins and 2 slots will be empty and I've also heard plug the positive into pin 6 and the negative to the negative for heat.
I just plugged wires exactly like the original. No heat function on the new M5 mirrors (auto dimming and passenger auto dip on reverse only).

Thanks for replying I'm a bit confused on every post about retrofitting the mirrors they say the only mirrors that will fit pre 09/05 cars are pre 09/05 mirrors but some how you were able to get pnp from 2006 mirrors to your 04 car. Can you shed some light on this either they were wrong or your m5 mirrors are pre 09/05.
The mirrors are from a 2006 M5 (according to the seller, a forum member from OC who previously installed them on his 525i). I believe E60 M5 came out in 2006 here in the US.

Also I want to add the I have already precoded my car for the folding mirrors myself using ncs, so when i do get them i would be able to use it right away.. i tried following the directions i got some error when i tried adding SA430 to the VO but i was able to make BEIKLAPPEN_B_KORMFORTSHCL in both modules activ. I was told i don't need to add SA430 to the VO since i already have kerbing and dimming on my original mirrors but funny thing is when i went to confirm if it was already there i didn't see it on the list i did see $430 however

I have an '04 545i with all options on the mirrors except auto fold and I was wondering the same thing if auto fold feature is just a matter of coding on pre 9/05 cars. I'm planning to get some aftermarket mirrors something like these http://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-E60-E61-...4#ht_640wt_986
Do I need to add sa430 in VO order? I believe my car has a door module and uses 2 plugs for mirrors
