Hi BenAnd

Could you please tell me where to connect the fiber optic cable? I 'm retrofitting the HUD and did all wiring but can't figure out the fiber cable! I would appreciate any help.

You disconnect one of the fiber optic cables from the iDrive computer and connect it to the HUD, and then you connect a new fiber optic wire from the second connector on the HUD into to iDrive computer.

If you take away the "in" wire on the iDrive computer, you need to connect this to the "in" connector on the HUD. Then you connect the new wire on the "out" of the HUD and then to the now empty "in" on the iDrive computer.

Hello,

I`m starting my HUD-project near future. I have almost all necessary parts already - except windshield...

Everything feels pretty clear, except +12V-wiring to trunk. I have understood there is two +12V wires from HUD > trunk fusebox? Do I really have to wire those cables to the trunk or is it possible to find suitable connecting points from frontside of car?

And CAN-wires to the CAS-module? Im I right?

Car is 530XD LCI.

I'm sure it would be possible to find the 12 power somewhere else, but the size of the fuse is quite big, so I will recommend you to just do it like it should be. I just tapped the can wires to the nearest one I found, using a home made adapter.

Awt did you cut your dashboard for this installation? If so I would like to know your opinion, is there any chance to not remove dashboard for this mod? I was thinking to remove cluster and steering wheel to get acces and try to cut dash... What you think?

Thanks in advance for your time.

You have to remove the dashbord in order to mount the HUD and the mounting parts.

I'm hoping some of you are still following this thread, looking for some help with HUD retrofit.

A tree branch fell on my 2007 M5 (without HUD) and I need to replace damaged windshield and dash. Cheapest option is a used dash from 2006 M5 with HUD.

I have all the parts listed in this tread but am not sure about wiring. Is there a DIY or howto available somewhere that describes how to connect everything correctly?

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve.

Yes there is, but it's in german.

However, Google translate will help you out.
