Sorry to jump on post but question is relavent- I'm changing from 2003 E60 with folding mirrors to 2007 without. Does anyone know if they are swappable? Old car didnt have memory seats, new does, I think this means correct module is present for the fold option? Can I use the remote to fold so I dont have to change switch bank, although if have to can do this in future. Any advise, comments or **ss takes accepted Thanks!!

The mirror wires changed 3 times during the E60`s production run, you will need to get the mirrors for your cars year, I have done this retrofit and on a 2007 like my 2006 it`s not an easy job to do.

BLooD- thanks for the reply, I will have both cars for a short while, if the only change is plugs sockets I can swap, or did the hardware change, if so do you know if its feasable to use the folding chassis and motor unit with all internals swapped from the newer mirror and rebuild the other mirrors to fit the older car? Its amazing what I can be willing to do to save a few bob! Also- do you know if there were shape changes beteen the two. Dont worry if you cant answer any of these queries as I realise I'm being very ambitious as to the amount of info required

After further investigation- looking at 2 cars side by side, answers to my own queries:

Alloy mirror chassis looks the same on auto folding and non, the auto does have the motor fitted tho of course, it cannot be easily removed, memory mirrors do not have it fitted but not working(shame) the mirrors look interchangable apart from dim cct, all internal comps look interchangable but there is one important difference- the mirror control unit on memory setup does not have the connections for either fold or dim. It looks to be a sealed unit so would require replacing, there is one in each mirror, they by part nos appear to be handed, cost is approx 100euros each. Best to look for complete 2nd hand units methinks

The 2003 mirrors had more wires and plug due to it having door modules, the door modules were removed in sept/2005 and the number of wires reduced to 4 for basic mirrors and 3 for active mirrors (SA430 auto dim/folding).

You will have a major headache doing this, the 2003 E60 mirrors will not work on a 2007 E60. The 2007 active mirrors have an internal controller were as the 2003 auto dim ones do not.

There are atleast 3 types of mirrors that I know of and have worked with.

2003 - 09/2005.
09/2005 onwards with only heating.
09/2005 with anything more than heating.

Only the last one has an ECU inside the mirror.
