Sweet, thanks! You answered my question. Now I await to see your solution to getting the Dension unit working.

Does the Dension unit support USB devices (flash sticks, hard drives) and can you input video (iPod, DVD player) onto the I-Drive screen?

Okay - check out the Dension website for full product details.

* Yes the GW500 supports flash drives/ USB and also takes an AV input (extra module required for Video etc).

* I do not think that the GW500 will playback video format through an i drive screen. Though it will playback through a conventional scree.

* I believe that Dension are working on a mod to allow cars with the TV function on the i drive to be able to interface.

GW500 should be able to help out here.

Regards, Matt

Yes, you have the right answers for all questions.

Note: I could see the fibre optic flashing on the loop when i disconnected the bridge connector during the works. How does the car read the Dension? through the CD menu or the Aux input menu? I also tried using my wife's mini ipod to see if that worked - no sucess.

My Car can read MP3/ burned CD's through the single shot player - but only displays CD1 - not CD2/3/4 etc.
There are three possibilities:
1. In the CD menu you see only the font slot. You need to enable CD Changer capability on the car.
2. You see CD CD1 CD2 CD3 ... CD6, but CD1 ... CD6 are greyed out. Your car cannot handle MP3 on CDC port. Is it an M-ASK system with single slot in the front and with 6.5" screen (Business I think)? Unfortunately even with the latest BMW SW, your car is not able to handle MP3 on CDC port. Your Dension distributor must know this. You can try the following DIP-SW setting OFF-ON-OFF-OFF (instead of ON-ON-OFF-OFF), but this setting won't display text on i-Drive.
3. You see CD CD1 CD2 CD3 ... CD6, and can select CD5. Everything should work in this case.

Hi GW500,

Thanks for your help/ patience. To answer your question;

1. I think you are right - BMW need to enable the CDC function.
2. I have this type of stereo (business) with Single CD & 6.5" screen. - My CD Player just shows CD1 - ie for track one on a CD, CD2 for track 2 and so on.
So If this is the case - Am i wasting my time with the GW500?

I am about ready to send the GW500 back and get a refund. I am not willing to pay a further ??? just to have the the thing enabled!!!

Cheers, Matt

I haven't yet seen/heard about any E60 M-ASK with MP3 CDC capability. (They just work without text when using Dension adapter.)

Matt, did you get this working yet? I'm still interested in seeing pics of how you split the optical wire.
