Good day all, I've been reading this site for a few months now gathering up all the info for my '05 530i. I am stumped on this headlight business, with all the types of aftermarket brands, and applications. I contacted Life quality BMW in NY and they told me that to convert from Halogen to Bi-Xenon would be 23 and change PER SIDE, not including labor :'o( So my question to you all is; if I purchase a set of projection headlights w/o all of the necessary wires, and purchase an aftermarket kit, would that work?? YES B4 U flame away I did use the search option but found bits and pieces here and there. Can someone please help regarding this matter. Like would the "plan" I have be successful?, what problems might I run into besides having to get the ECU programmed to be compatible with the new bulbs. THanx in advanced. ALL answers are greatly appreciated, and you guys made buying my car rather easy with all the info here.

Hello,

I contacted Life quality BMW in NY and they told me that to convert from Halogen to Bi-Xenon would be 23??? What do you mean?
You don't need the projectors but they will control the light beam better. Hid's might be brighter on the halogen headlight because the E60 projector is not that good, it was better on the older E39 5 series. Acura, Lexus, Infiniti, and Audi cars come with better projectors.

Anyway for your question, you can buy projector headlights and aftermarket Hid kits that will connect to all the stock wirring. The Harness that your stock H7 halogen bulb is in will conect to the Hid ballast direct or by adapter then the Hid bulb will plug into the headlight. If you but a factory BMW projector headlight, you will need to but a Hid kit that uses D2S bulbs and bulb connector. Stocck BMW cars use a 4,300 bulb which is the brightest and closest to sunlight. I would recommend a 5000k bulb or 6000k bulb. The higher the number, the less lumens output and the hotter the bulb runs thus shorter lifespan. Bulbs are from 3000k up to 25,000k. I an putting a 6000k bulb in my headlight because even though it has less lumens output, it has a whiter light that would light up the road better because it is white. The 8,000k bulb and above is not recommended because it will be bluer and will prbably get you a ticket because of the color.

If you email me, I can send you a pic of what kit you would need. I have been selling HID kits for over 5 years and it matters which brand you buy. Most are made in the same country but quality is different. This I can say since I have sold over 5 different brands.

Hope this helps.
