vids wont work.
and how do you plan to power your 320gb?

the 2.5" drive is only powered by the usb port itself.
try 1 of these, they are great, I have 1 for my notebook, and I can plug my USB 320 HD in it too.

Did you get a LCI without us knowing? He's talking about the new 2008+ that has the $400 option to get a USB port in the center arm rest console. And with that if you have a 2.5" HD and a external USB HD case you can format it correctly to use it as a MP3 player for the car
no need to get a LCI just a CD unit with usb

Just be careful that you use a HDD that does not attempt to draw too much power from the 5V USB power source.

Thanks.

Now, wouldn't you know it, there's now an actual need for the climate controlled console compartment and BMW went and took it away!
Rudy, I know that the slide door is gone. But I'm absolutely surprised that BMW choose not to route the air into the console at all. It would seem like a lot of changes under the console to stop this from happening. Are you sure that the air is now not coming into the console from some other source.

I'm pretty sure. They basically took the entire rectangular opening where the air used to come from and replaced it with the USB/Aux connections. Toward the rear of the compartment, there is a small vent hole that was probably there to allow air to flow through the area. The small vent hole is not new -- the old car had it too...

Oh no no way. I'm not putting one of those ugly CD head units into my car. I want it to look OEM.

That is fine... upping the 12V to 210V is ok if you have nothing running... or if you have a CD player plugged in but what he meant was to make sure the current draw isnt too high. P = IV SOoooo dont plug in a microwave in there

I know in the older cars there is a grill opposite the sliding door but maybe that was to let the air out.

Try adjusting the temp control at the back to the coldest and the wait for a while and the put your hand into the compartment to see if there is any difference to the temp.

That little test is something I did early on. I do think the grille in the back is to let the air out so unless someone else can prove differently, I think the console is not conditioned anymore...
