Just harwired my Passport 8500 today. I had trouble getting to that screw in the roof beam that Don Juan's instructions show to ground to. I ended up drilling a hole in some metal that was in the area I wired the detector to and grounded it that way. Can I assume that this is ok? Is the entire metal framework grounded?

Thanks

I dunno, but hope so. If you grounded to the same piece of metal above the headliner that Don Juan's instructions showed, you are OK. I imagine you are OK anyway.

When you take out the panel with the overhead lights and switches, behind Don Juans piece in the center there is a piece of metal with some holes in it. I drilled a hole in there. I think I'm ok. I hope I'm ok. I guess I will find out.

It's fairly certain that you are grounded, but, did you attach the wire with a screw or something to keep it there?

Cheers,
Ray Hull
(still using the socket in the passenger footwell).

Yeah, I used a screw and a washer. It is in there real snug.

I used the hex screw on the sunroof motor (at least I think it's the sunroof motor) for attaching the ground wire. It is very accessible and seems to work very well.
