Congrats on the upgrade! If I had the 535, this would be a no brainer mod. Especially with Dinan's warranty. And even at $2K, it's a huge value compared to the price you pay to get very few ponies on normal aspirated cars.

I should turbocharge my M5 AND THEN chip it. LOL!

The Dinan upgrade sounds like the way to go on the 535i. I am surprised you did it with only 500 miles on the car. Its too soon (based on the recommended breakin) to be flogging the car hard (and being able to enjoy the upgrade).

It was quick to get the upgrade, but according to both the service manager and service advisor 500 miles is the actual safe harbor break in for the car. They told me this before I ever decided to get the upgrade, and confirmed it when I had the upgrade put on.

Regardless, I still am not flogging the car hard on a consistent basis. I don't think I'm the kind of driver that will ever get the full enjoyment out of the upgrade, but I'll definitely enjoy it at stoplights.

I appreciate all the information several of you have provided regarding the Dinan upgrade for my 535. I've had the car just over a week and, after passing 500 miles yesterday I had the flash done this afternoon.

It is above and beyond what I imagined it would be. My service advisor, who has been to Dinan driving school, wanted to go on a ride when I picked up the car to see my reaction. The 535 is pretty quick on it's own, but when I punched it after the upgrade I was going 50 mph in first gear before I knew it. At first I was afraid I was going to blow something out, but my advisor let me know that I could rev it to 5500+ rpm very comfortably without creating any issues. Shifting was quick and seemed much smoother. I think I was most shocked with how quickly the car accelerated in 5th gear -- it was whiplash quick even in the higher gears at high speeds.

I came to this car from a 545 (which was very quick), and this car is a beast in comparison. The 535 is a 6 speed whereas my 545 was Steptronic so that probably factors in to the difference, but the driving experience in this thing after the upgrade is magnificent.
i hear you... i did it in my 335i.... what a f$%k&* diff... the car is a beast......

Member pennetta did this mod a while ago to his 535 and said the same thing. He too, came from a SMG 545 and says this car blows it away in power now.

Makes you wonder 2 things...

1. Is it worth going to the 550 for my next car next year?

2. If the F10 550(or 555) gets the TTV8, what HP/Torque gains can be expected with a Dinan chip for that thing? If it has the gains that the 535 got, you can expect that thing to have more HP and Torque than the current M5.

What to do...what to do...

Congrats again!

Break in as per the manual is for the lawyers. Nothing else. The only thing on these cars that require a break in period are the brake pads. This is directly from the mouths of the guys in Dingolfing who build these cars. I asked the techs who were building the motors for ALL E60's and this is what they ALL said. Chew on that one.
