Nice Project
I routed the driver side wire up behind the passanger side cup holder and across the dashboard, tucking the wires below the middle aircond ducts and down behind the steering wheel to the footwell light opening.
I used a long stick with some sticky tape (to attach the wire to the stick) and pushed the wire through all the 'nook and crany'. Yes, you will need to remove the centre wood trim for this. I rather this than removing the footwell panels.
Also did a current test with a 9v battery- normal bulb drew 198 milliamp, a 3 bulb LED drew 5.6 milliamp.
Normal bulbs will shorten the life of your battery!!

 

I know this tread was made last year on uk cars, last night i did it on my us version and everything came out perfect. The only difference is that i used leds light instead of the ogininal bulbs..Thanks for the write up and pics..
