I'm not the guy to get facts from on this- but in general the computer and electronics guys have greatly dampened the fun we used to have with engine and tranny swaps. I remember putting big blocks and 5 speeds into auto I6 Camaros and such without even thinking about any more than the physical geometries and hard points. But to put a V8 in an I6 BMW or even bump a 520d to a 535d motor - I would think it would be a nightmare getting the bits and bytes to support it.

Just my two cents. But everything is possible and one member here I think is putting an M5 V10 in his ride so find an expert.

And take lots of pictures- this would be really cool to track. Cheers.

i knw who ur talking about.. I have been sending him pm but i dont think he has got it.

anyway, but are you saying that simply putting a more powerful engine is not enough? I thought e60s are more or less the same apart from the engine.. lol.

thanks very reply anyway!

I would think if you can get the 535d motor WITH the complete wiring loom and ECU Computer, it shouldn't be too difficult.

This is assuming the 535D will bolt up to your existing transmission too.

Obstacles:

Engine fit and connectivity (tranny, motor mounts, accessories, hoses, exhaust)

Wiring (may need a complete harness w/ECU)

One of the con's of doing this would be that it would devalue your vehicle way below the market value.

Non-OEM mods like this always devalues the car. Like someone said above, best to trade up to a 535d.
