Hi Guys, I have been offered an OEM M5 Cluster and would like to fit it into my 2008 530i. Does anyone know if I will get any errors or do I need coding??

i had an M5 cluster....i plugged it right in. of course i got some errors from time to time but i just dealt with them. it is possible to code them, but from my research it seems to be a rather cumbersome project, i deemed it not worth all the trouble and kept my cluster in as is....

I'm not entirely sure about the e60 (cause im new to the e60) but on the e46 (had one for over 5 years) if you just put in a different cluster it would result in the tamper dot. Basically the car stored the mileage and all that info in three locations (LCM, ECU, Cluster) and if any of those don't line up it triggers the tamper dot (a small dot next to the mileage number). That dot didn't affect the driving or anything but if you try to sell the car and the dealer, or someone knows whats up it can hurt you big time in resale. I can't imagine that this same sort of set up isn't present in the e60. If anything I could see it being worse with all the electronics and idrive. With something like this i would suggest do it right or don't do it at all. Just my opinion.

I just installed umichchris' old M5 cluster in my 08 550i and got the following errors:
Driver seatback not locked
Passenger seatback not locked
Transmission malfunction
Electronic damper malfunction
Service Due
I decided to take it back out and wait until I can talk with someone about coding to find out the prognosis.

DAYUM!
i didnt get that many errors...esp the service due error...i would get the transmission error sometimes though...my thought is that it was due to the donor car having the SMG rather than the regular steptronic automatic.
Let me know what you decide to do....if you want to program it (i dont know how to), plan to deal with the errors/just leave it in or just want to send it back to me....we both knew it would be a gamble....but as my customer i want you to be satisfied (tho im not a business....just selling my old parts lol).
