Thanks for that good reply !!

We have butted heads? Sorry no offense
or anything but I don't remember names
too well. Don't worry as you are not the first person
to butt heads with me in life and definitely not the last.
Must be the German/Italian blood flowing through
my veins that makes me such a proverbial nazi
(no racist connotation intended) ballbreaker.
I just don't give up.

Besides, I am not an internet tough guy so you won't
find me chasing you around these forums looking for
any chance to start a flame war.

Ok...I'm getting the feeling here that I was a bit premature
in my 535i purchase seeing as the aftermarket is just starting
to come of age. By the time there are enough aftermarket
options for this car (probably another year from now) I will
have already passed the 50k mile mark on my car and be looking
for another car to buy.

I read that other guy....his name starts with a "P" who posted
in these forums regarding his Dinan S2 software install. From
what he said, it sounds like we both have the same concerns
and the added power with the JB/Proceed just isn't worth it,
His review was pretty convincing and it sounds like the gain
is noticeable and somewhat fun to play with.

I bought this car for the looks/handling/electronic goodies.
The fact that it has a twin turbo engine is just icing on the cake
as far as I'm concerned. My racing days are long gone, I don't
need to prove myself to every taker on the streets like I did
when I was in my early 20's.

I won't be seriously driving a sub 12 second car until I hit my midlife
crisis at or around 45 years of age. Then will buy a Corvette. Of course
to compliment that Corvette I will need to trade in the 40 year old wife
for two 20's

I will probably wind up waiting a few more months and then will come back
here and post pics/times/reviews of what I finally decided.

thanks again !!

Is this because it is an automatic or just the nature of BMW engines/setup?

Correct me if I'm wrong....but the wastegate (if it has one) serves the same
purpose as the bov?

No, a wastegate is very different from a BOV. The wastegate controls the boost pressure. The recirculating valve or BOV releases the excess air pressure (boost) when the throttle plate closes, to keep it from trying to stop the turbos from spinning.

You really don't want to replace your stock recirculating valve unless it's having trouble holding boost. At stock or near stock boost levels, the BMW recirculating valve shouldn't have a problem. When it gets to be a problem, it's generally best on these cars to replace them with an upgraded recirculating valve instead of a BOV. Recirculating valves pipe the air back to the intake, whereas BOV's release the air to the atmosphere. Because this is already "measured" air, use of a BOV will tend to make the car run richer. While this may be beneficial if your car is running a bit too lean, it's not a very good way to correct for this (software is).

This does not apply for the speed density systems used on some other makes/models.

Just going to list them numerically.

1. Will an upgraded intercooler be a performance gain for the 535i? Can this be done?

2. When I was running my little turbocharged Honda Civics on the street, I always had a
blow off valve on my set up. All of my cars were stick. Can you put a BOV on an automatic?

3. Dinan S2 software....Does anyone have this on their 535i? I'm curious as to the 1/4 mile
times of the car.

4. Are there any aftermarket companies that sell products for the 535i? I am having a hard time
finding such parts as a downpipe etc.

5. Air intake. I can't find anything listed on Dinan's website regarding a CAI or even an better intake.
Any suggestions?

thanks
I saw a thread a few months back on a modified 335i. The mods included a blow off valve which was blamed for causing the turbos to over spin. Turbos self destructed, pieces went into the motor. BMW knew the car was modified and would not fix the motor under warranty. The car was leased and the owner was required to fix the car per the lease. Total cost $27k, yes that is twenty seven thousand dollars... not Lira...

I have had very good experience with Dinan parts on several cars (but no turbo cars). I would not go near any other company if I was tuning a BMW turbo car.

Congrats on the car. In regards to your original post, you can run the Active Autowerke Blow Off Valve kit on an automatic. I have this installed on my 135 and also on our E92 335 and it's a great upgrade. The setup makes a nice woosh sound when lifting off of the throttle and is one of my favorite upgrades.

For software, I honestly would go with the Active Autowerke Processor. The dinan setup is nice but I think for the price, you can do much better with the active setup. I have this also on my 135 and love the ability to upload new maps for race gas and for new mods (downpipes, exhausts etc...).
