Try this on for size - visit your municipal police department parking lot and take photographs of police officer's cars with window tint and note their license plate numbers. Carry that with you and offer to provide the information to your state's Department of Transportation and the local newspapers to help ensure that law enforcement officers walk the talk.
After you've done the above, place a GOOD lawyer on retainer because you're going to spend a lot of time in court, in jail or worse![Worthy](https://5series.net/forums/images/smilies/imported/worthy.gif)
Seriously though .. a few years back I had a neighbor, a local police officer, whose Honda side windows were tinted nearly BLACK. One day I casually asked him how the chief of police (Harry, by name) felt about that ... two days later the tint was gone.

Got pulled over in Brooklyn New Years day.
Officer: License and registration. I pulled you over because yours tints are too dark.
Me: Oh wow, they don't seem too dark to me as I hand him my Lic and reg with the PBA card on top.
Officer: Have a good evening sir.
Me: You too officer
I have 13% all around.
He may have thought I was a "dope boy" as the neighborhood Flatbush is not exactly my burbs.

When I lived in NJ my car did not pass the state inspection and I had to remove the tint. Never had a problem with the cops. This was many years ago though.

I'm in Edison and I had 50% tint on my E60 and I got a ticket for it once in Sayreville and its because he pulled me over for not having my front plate on. My other car has 20% all the way around and I haven't had a problem (knock on wood).

Im in ocean county and have 20% around my car. Never got pulled over specifically for tints. Have been pulled over for speeding and always ended up with a tint ticket instead. Just lucky I guess, but definitely cheaper. Have only happened twice.
