Is this a fair price for an iPod adapter and install?

$239.96 for the iPod kit from Garry at BMW of Newport and $175 for install and programing. $414.96 is that a good price?

Just so you know I don't currently have a CD changer or Nav and my car does not play mp3's so I would definitely need the programing. I was hoping maybe if I installed it myself I could just take it to a dealer and say that it didn't work and they would do the update for free. That way I could save myself $175. If that were possible I would do it.

It's hard for me to justify the $400 just to play my iPod. As most of you know I don't have a problem spending money on mods for my car. I just think $400 for just this function is a bit ridiculous. What do you guys think?

I paid right at $500 for mine so I think your quote is reasonable. Have seen other quoted upwards of $800-$900 for part and install. Is it cheap, no. If you are a big radio listener or has Sirius and that most of the time, probably not worth the cost for you. I installed it in my old 545, have the 6FL iPod/USB option in my 550 and listen almost exlcusively to my iPod so clearly it was worth it to me. You have to decide that on your own...

What's the cost to purchase, and install for that Dension? I thought it was more expensive. I know that you get the usb function, and you keep your changer.

That is a fair price, I also paid about $500 for the cable and install at my local BMW dealer. The price is steep but now that I have it I wouldn't go back even if the price was double.

That is a fantastic price from the dealer. I guess I will not be able to do this retrofit for less $ than the dealer anymore. This same dealer Sterling BMW like the others used to charge $1,150 for the iPod retrofit. I wonder if you are getting a special deal or they just had to lower the price now that other shops have access to the tool needed to program the iPod to the CCC.

Great price! I paid $240 for the adapter/equipment...installed it myself and then paid $210 for the progman update so that it could be recognized by idrive. Go for it...its well worth it.

Hmm... You have no problem spending thousands on stuff that has no function whatsoever other than being eye candy, but can't stomach paying $400 for something that you might actually use.

That's a good price. I got hosed! I paid $685 Canadian for hardware and labour. But I am going to write it off as a car expense so I didn't negotiate further. Canadian dealer prices are also higher than US - apparently, I got a deal!
