Yours will be the first soundtrack of a V8 that I can find on the web. I cannot find a lot of US exhausts for this car. I just got through searching UUCMotorwerks.com, perfauto.com, eurosportparts.com, bbexhaust.com, and hmsmotorsport.com plus supersprint.com
Sound tracks seem to be nonexistent, so far.

Hamann have very nice dual exhausts for the 545i (looks like the new M5) and apparently they are one of the approved BMW tuners whose products would not void the guarantee.
However i am not sure if i will start getting fault messages because the exhaust is not original and how loud these pipes are.
Any feedback?

You didn't miss it. Exhaust is being installed this afternoon. Weather permitting, I'll have a sound up tonight.

To the contrary, this caused the flap to stay closed. I noticed the right pipe has exhaust only when I manually push the lever to the left side of the car (simulating vacuum with hose still connected.) Can anyone experiment on this.
I safety-wired it so that it stays in the open position. Leave the vacuum hose plugged. I was going to drive and listen for the sound difference but with my hearing loss (due to working around aircraft on the flight deck in my line of work) I will need another body.
I pulled of the rubber hose that creates a vacuum to close the valve. I pushed a golfpin in the rubber hose so I wouldn't get a faultmessage from my car. When you do this your flap stays open all the time ...

Leaving this valve in the open position will not have a negative effect on performance, right? Aftermarket exhausts do not have this valve. Anybody tried this yet?

I can't see how there would be any negative performance effects. If it allows better flow it should only increase performance. I'm pretty sure that valve is there just to keep the car quiet under normal driving conditions. I haven't seen any error/fault codes since my B&B was installed. Oddly enough, I seem to be getting a little better mileage.
