The earthquakes seem to be the most popular upgrade in terms of the 8" subs underneath the seats, but are they the only possible option??

Will these Kicker speakers work by any chance?

Its not the size but the shape of the woofers that make the Earthquakes work.

You find it in various dealers in Germany who actually do better shaped speaker packages. One of them is Big Dog Audio but I dont know the brand of the speakers used.

you can try these guys, a lot of e46 guys use there stuff. good factory integration in terms of speakers but the sub they make is for the trunk.

Yes the OEM's are 2 Ohms, but when you install the SWS-8's, you need to hook them up to an amplifier.

I have started looking at upgrading my subs as well, and I saw these Kickers too, the only thing that concerns me with these is the mounting depth. The Earthquakes are 2 1/8" where these are more then a full inch in depth, so I am not sure how deep the enclosure is under the seat. I can tell you Pioneer now makes a shallow 8" sub that are just about the same as the Earthquakes in overal specs, however I havent seen anyone on here to offer any feedback on them yet.

Thats because the Pioneer are not the right shape. Also the Earthquake just about barely fit the enclosure so anything thickness wont work.

what do you mean by they are not the right shape? Typically 8" subs are 8" subs usually the only difference is the depth and box size requirements...I have seen square subs before...but not sure what you mean by shape.

can you clarify?

Shape of the mounting frame and the screw holes are of consideration here. See my thread on the Earthquake install and there is a picture of a faulty speaker. You can see the shape I'm talking about.
