I am planning to upgrade the sub under the seat to Earthquake SWS-8XI but I see that this is 2 Ohm.

dose the 2 Ohm matter?
do I need 4 Ohm?

you will need a 4 Ohm woofer. a 2 Ohm woofer will play a lot louder, make your amp run hotter and possibly burning it out pre-maturely. the speaker needs to match the specifications of the amplifier and i'm pretty sure the BMW amp is not designed to run 2 Ohm speakers.

BTW how do I know if the car has a sub under the seat?
You can see the metal mesh screen if you look under the drivers seat from the back.
The amp is located in the left trunk panel. The thing honestly looks like two cigarette boxes. Pathetic.

We may not have enough power to "push" the 4 ohm

Use the 2ohm version if you are not planning to upgrade the amp. However if you are planning to upgrade the amp then check if the Amp can handle 2ohm speakers (many don't) if not buy the 4ohm version.
