I am a proud owner of an early 04 E60.

I have had distortion on my sound system (which I guess is a basic one) since i have had it (1 year), and as i plan to fit an aux connection for an ipod soon, i asked the dealer about upgrading the speakers and/or amp if possible to try and beef up the sound and eradicate the distortion, which starts at 70% volume level. They tell me that its not possible to improve the sound system at all because of the computer and the wiring system being set in production,,,,,something like that anyway.

This seems like BS to me. Does anyone know different.
Thanks
A.

are there any bmw fitted improvements that can be made? I am not sure what the option would be in a new buy (mine was 6 months old) but I am guessing the system in my 530 is bog standard.

Nope. You need to install a new aftermarket system in parallel to the factory system, and reroute the factory sound to a dedicated speaker. I've redone my system completely since that gallery was posted, I'll redo the pics when it's completely done.

Thanks, that system looks sweet. I think I would be okay with the stock system, just dont want the distortion and am having problems figuring out why its happening. BMW Germany dont want to know.
