The new standard headrests move forward in an accident to prevent whiplash. They are expensive to retrofit ( I asked). They help those without comfort seats, bc they are bigger and sit more forward, so your head can rest more easily against them.

Basically, I should have gotten comfort seats....damn!

I thought comfort would be pretty high up the list when designing any car seat ( not an optional extra that you have to pay for !! ). I do not accept that you should have to pay extra, or specify anything special to get comfort.
I totally agree with Uk525i!!! If my logic is correct, if you don't have "Comfort" seats, you have "Un-Comfort"-able seats!!

I went to the BMW dealer today.

When I was there, i went to see the new 2009 e60. I noticed that the standard seats have different headrest now (i bought my e60 last year).

Attachment 63792

They really make a big difference so I ended up ordering two new 2009 headrests.

Maybe now the seats will be more comfortable ???

With my both my E60s I have had the Sports seats; one pre-LCI and an LCI. The pre-LCI headrest was a joke. The new LCI headrests do the job just fine.

How much did you pay for the LCI headrests?
I also assume you have ordered the Standard/Sports seats headrests, correct?

The headrest is not designed for the driver to have his head resting on it while driving.
Its just there to stop your neck from snapping should be shunted from the rear.
IF the car seat slids down and under then the headrest is all that remains.
Sadly in most cars people still put their headrest in a position that suits them for driving but is too slanted to be perfect in a car crash.

They are great... fold them in and your head rests comfortably on the side... Perfect for having a sleep while doing 70mph in the fast lane

My 2007 LCI e60 which was made in july 2007 came with the basic headrest (the joke ones !!!).

Your right, I ordered the 2009 e60's Standard/Sports seats headrests (400? a pair).

I just installed them in my 2007 LCI e60.

They fit perfectly !!! And it makes a big difference !!!

Couldn't be easier.

Just remove the old ones and slide in the new ones.

The new headrest come with a wire in one of the tubes (for the connection of the anti-whiplash mechanism), but you just leave the wire and slide in the headrest.

It's as easy as removing your old headrest and re-installing it.
