Hey Everyone,
I know there a tons of posts about this topic, but time is of this essence on this issue and hopefully someone can get back to me before I find it after a few hours on the boards.
My brake pad indicator message popped up the other day (2006 530xi). I took it into Monro brake & muffler and the guy said I needed new pads and rotors. I think he's just trying to push the rotors, but it would probably be wisest to get them both now while I have some money.
My problem is, I do not want to spend the money for OEM BMW rotors and pads. It breaks my heart to slowly turn my ride into an all aftermarket machine, but I'm still in college and am managing these payments on my own and want to keep it that way.
So, can anyone suggest some good aftermartket pads or rotors? I don't do any performance driving, and have no performance mods, but I read a few posts with owners complaining of aftermarket brakes screeching. I was thinking of getting this set:
http://www.bimmerzone.com/BMW_Parts_...E60-BRAKE.html
The guy at Monro is willing to install anything aftermarket I get off the books for $100. If I want them through Monro, I have to buy OEM at around $620.
Any thoughts, suggestions, and opinions are appreciated.
Thanks

I suggest you try a recommended BMW Indy and use OEM quality parts. Several aftermarket brands have good reviews for years from BMW drivers and DIY'ers (eg Zimmerman, PBR, Pagid, Textar etc)
Unless you're driving an ultra hot street machine and puling stop-light drag-races (I see you're running an '06 530xi) I personally do not see a need for Drilled/slotted brake discs or UHP "racing" brake pads for your car/driving needs. It's an unnecessary expense and often results in unsatisfactory daily driving issues (noise, poor cold-braking performance, etc).
For BMW's it's recommended you replace - not resurface brake discs ... and since your brake sensor has kicked off get a new sensor too!
