akebono, my friend had them on his 3 series and they did wonders, couldn't tell how many weeks it was since the last wash!
Not sure if there are akebono pads for E60 available

K, I have Axxis Advanced Pads in my 550. I know most go with the Axxis Ultimate pads because of the increased performance but I went with Axxis Advanced because I wanted the least amount of brake dust and the most rotor friendly pads. Advanced pads do require a bit more pedal effort than the stock pads. I can't say for sure whether or not they require any longer distance to come to a stop than the factory pads but I don't feel I have sacrificed any performance. I can tell you that they produce virtually no dust compared to the factory pads. One day on the factory pads produced more dust than one week on the Axxis Advanced pads. Any of the 3 Axxis Pads are awesome and Dave Zeckhausen will be able to give you the best advice. If you haven't talked to him I would encourage you to give him a call, he's a great guy. Tell him your concerns and he will be able to steer you in the right direction in choosing between the three Axxis pads. Good Luck Buddy
+1 I installed them on my car at new so can't really say about pedal effort, but the brakes in my 550 felt increadible. I totally agree - no dust and rotor friendly. In my mind there was no performance trade off. Some of other pads that have higher "performance" were overkill.....I am never going to experience brake fade from repeatedly slowing the car from 200 km per hour 30 times in a row on the way to work.

Just by way of clarification, Axxis changed the name of these pads- they were called Axxis Deluxe and now they are called Axxis Advanced - these are the same pads.

How much did you spend on the Rotora rotors?
They were about $100/each, OE size, just slotted/drilled.

Unless you're going to be doing some serious track time, I'd keep the stock pads. Plus under normal use, you can have them replaced for free under the maintainence program. Never had a problem with mine and currently on the 2nd set. I don't have an issue with brake dust since my wheels are anodized (brake dust doesn't stick) but BMW OEM rims are easy to clean anyway. just my 2?

EBC redstuff for ur 550i, 50% less dust and much more bite than your OEM plus no bed in required with this pads. Great stuff!

H, thanks for the reply. the 172's are a real bitch to keep clean . I put less than 7,000 miles on a year and never on a track so I think the idea of getting a brake job done under warranty is unlikely for me . I'll keep the OEMs just in case............. Cheers

Small input here:

I have experienced severe brake fade at max braking effort on stock pads slowing the car from 200km/h only after a couple of times. Made for a nervous experience. Our rotors our pretty good heatsinks - but the stock pads can only take so much.

I'm thinking of getting Redstuff installed in March - I heard from other forums and some other members here over the years, that Axxis lacked bite when cold.

I think Nick had Axxis and maybe can confirm this. They are stellar however when it comes to reduced dust, this for me however is a secondary concern (even with 172M's)...

Andy, thanks. I can,t see too many 200 kmp -0 kmp braking scenarios in my driving ...................
