I know it doesn't really matter, but was just wondering.

Hi

IMO it does make a difference at speed. It's not just a cosmetic change from the standard body shape...

I guess it's same to assume that you've driven both?

Yup. In the standard body shape, I took a friend's car up to about 140ish mph, and I recently clocked 160 on my own car before running out of road.

so besides looks, what exactly does the msport body kit add in terms of performance? does it cool the engine better with the bigger air intakes? more downforce?

Probably more cooling to brakes and engine I guess. One thing for sure it looks faster just being parked there.

yeah, its faster while parked.

well, im sure the M5 has it for a reason - other than making it look like a cross between a sea monster and a vacuum cleaner. (a good thing - dont get me wrong)

The first thing the technician at BMW told me after he got back from test driving my car after the install of my M-kit... was... "Man, this thing drives better with the new bumper. It feels more aerodynamic."

I just noticed that the car sounds different with the Mtech bumper installed (not the engin, just the wind)
Didn't notice any difference in handling to be honest.

I am sure they have done very extensive wind tunnel testing on the M5.
The spoilers of the M-kit are meant to increase downforce.
With the M-kit's suspension, the car will also have a lower center of gravity. The lower the car to the ground, the more stable I expect to be at higher speed. No coincidence that race cars are built the way they are.
The positive thing about the M-kit is that I expect less impact from side winds on the E60 (mainly because a lower center of gravity), something that some people on this board have been complaining about.

I have not experienced this myself yet, as I am still waiting for my E60 with M-kit.
