I would like a new car if a newer version comes out (E39 to E60) but wouldn't switch to a new car if I didn't order certain options, that's a waste of money IMO.

But for me, I think the 'law of diminishing returns' is beginning to apply. My 530d is a fantastic car, faster than anything else I have owned, but I'm already thinking of having is re-mapped and daydreaming about changing it. I know though that is I spend an extra ?10K the difference will not be as great as the difference between my car and one costing ?10k less.
At times like these I think we have to remember how 'lucky' (like your username) we are to have what we have - and enjoy it while we can.

I am pretty contend with my car. My mind start to wonder about a new car maybe 1 1/2 year from the day i purchase the car. By then i am getting ready to select a new model because I always lease for 24 months

That's why I lease (well, at least one reason). When I was "buying" my cars I'd get a new one every year. Given that it is more costly to bail out of a lease it helps me ease my temptation.

That's interesting. You use a lease to force you to keep the car longer than you might have otherwise. I, on the other hand have never leased, but the single most attractive thing about leasing to me is the fact that it would "force" me (or give me an excuse) to get a new car every 2 or three years, which is much faster than my ususal 7-10 years. I just wish my accountant would come up with a reason why leasing would be more beneficial for me financially, but both him and my BMW salesman think that purchasing is more appropriate for me.
