[quote name='M3>535d' date='Jun 30 2005, 08:08 PM']I would like to know exactly what figures DMS actually achieve as i have seen

( i think on this forum ) 360bhp , after the 343bhp on my M3 that figure doesnt feel that far away, as my 535d is a little heavier but? feels as quick.

I don't recall anyone claiming 360bhp. 334bhp is what I saw on the dyno plot at DMS.

What happens with the remap when you upgrade the software in the car.
Will you loose it or will the car still be remapped?

It's amazing just how much headroom BMW seem to leave on the diesels. The DMS remaps look phenomenal, just a shame we a) can't get as much with remaps on the gas engines (I appreciate that the lack of turbo is at the heart of this) and b) we're still not able to get these bad boys over in the US. But the other question is why BMW don't set the factory mappings closer to what the guys from DMS etc can get out of these engines - all the evidence I see on here seems to point to no real changes in economy, big gains in performance and no real issues (as far as I have seen) on engine life and general wear and tear. So why don't BMW send them out of the factory with something close to their true capabilities??

Well, when I've been there / spoken to them, I've never heard them claim that for the mapping they supply to the public. They have certainly said it's possible to get higher figures from the car, but that they wanted to stay within good reliability limits. Cebera's 640lb/ft is a very large number - in fact, it's almost like they've taken one of their more conservaitve torque figures in ft lb and converted it (or had a misunderstanding?) into NM - 475 ft lb ~ 640NM?

Ok, thought I'd speak to DMS regarding the confusion that the "360bhp" post has caused. The below is their official response:

Our 535D has only been dyno'd on one occaison and that was independently done. The figures were 334 bhp and 506 lb/ft. The initial lower figures quoted by Autocar etc were given to them by us as we didn't want to frighten BMW into checking every 535D that moved (even though the upgrade is undetectable). I handle 95% of the enquiries and have ever only quoted the above figures as given to yourself. We DO NOT exagerate our work as seen with the publicised figures in the magazines. Rob occaisonally takes calls and knows the figures inside out and back to front. Very occaisonally Darren will take a call and likewise he is up to speed with the exact figures. We believe the engine is capable of more and have stated this openly but at the same time have not quoted figures and stand by our mission statement that we will NOT take the power any higher in the interests of long term driveability and reliability.
So, there you go - 334 and 506 are the official numbers. And IMHO they are quite good enough

Hmmmm...I know what I was told during the testdrive, this wasn't over the phone....its possible I've got NM and lb/ft mixed up- duh!- but I am in NO doubt that I was told that the 336BHP figure was kept conservative for a number of reasons, including to avoid annoying BMW, but the reality was 360 BHP. There was no need for the guy to make this claim, I was quite happy with whatever figures they quoted.

I'll ask the question again when I have the upgrade done at Andover.

I've put my car on a rolling road earlier this week prior to booking the DMS upgrade, and it came up with 288BHP and 410 lb/ft ( definitely lb/ft ), so that is in line with SG535's experience on his car.
