one thing comes to mind

5 passengers, 3 large suitcases, air condition is on, overtaking a lorry on the motorway,will and could it overtake safely?

did uou know about the E34 518i?

How many HP, 177 ?
Anyway, you can always remap it and reach the 200 HP threshold

The 725tds was available in the E38 7series only (lhd) from 1996 to 1998 and was the first 7 series diesel. Unfortunately it weren't strong and economical enough.
Was replaced in 1998 with the 730d, sporting the new 3.0 d common rail diesel, which made it a lot better. 1999 saw the addition of a V8 diesel called 740d.

The current 7 series line up sports the 730d and the 745d (740d before facelift)

745d, thats not available here in the UK? In europe, or just Germany?

LHD only, sold in several European countries.

The UK market (and diesel prices) don't seem to be enough to re-engineer a rhd version of the V8 diesel, as it's not bad, but still no economy wonder.

Mighty punch, though, as the standard version already gives 750Nm of torque (at only 330hp, though). Now think about a remap

yeh i can imagine, also i was reading some other threads, and realised that there is a E34 518i also, another underpowered bmw,

a 4 cyclinder engine i beleive it was, was this engine for economy or just the line up model?

If I recall correctly, some of these apparently smaller engines were designed for home-market use only as taxis (city taxis, I guess). Similar efforts would have been the early Mercedes 190D, 200D, E200cdi, C200cdi, etc.

the 518i local berlin taxis,

i can see that. 0-60mph in something like 18 seconds
