i am about to install a tunig box. I will take it off when i take it to BMW. when i take it off, can BMW find out that i had a tuning box installed? i was told by someone that the E60 has a black box which records everything. Is this true?

not only the e60 has the black box. a lot of other cars have it, too. i think only the manufacturer/dealer can read the info from the black box. the regular body shops or car repair shops won't be able to do this. some people against it just because of the privacy issue.

what exactly does this black box record?
i'm not exactly sure since the manufacturers don't even want the consumers know about this . however, what i've heard is it's almost the same as the blackbox in planes. so it'll probably record how fast you drive, you wear seatbelt or not, any malfunction parts if you get into an accident, and a lot more small details. they are doing this just because they think it'll be easier for them to investigate if an accident has happened. in the other word, they just want to know it's your fault or their fault. if your fault, you can't sue them .
