To those that have the GW500 installed, I have a few question- I ran my fiber cables as shown in the old documentation, car -> GW500 input port , then I hooked up the other fiber to the GW 500 CD changer port and the other end to the CD changer. In other words, no "splicing" of the fiber cables.

in the new documentation, they show insertion of the GW500 into the ring without using the CD changer port, rather doing a "splice" using the single-port connector (ie car ->gw500->cd changer->car)

is there any benefit to the second method?

thanks,

I would be taking my Dension back to return it if there was the slightest hint of slicing an optic fiber in the instructions. I thought that our MOST bus couldn't deal with potentially two CDCs on the bus which is why the Dension needed to be connected in the way that it removed the OEM CDC when it was in operations and brought it back online when the Dension was swtiched off.

When I had queried this with Dension earlier they told me that on a BMW this hardly matters but on some other cars using the Connection 2 allowed you to retain the CDC in parallel with the Dension.

no slicing- by splice i mean you separate one of the two fiber connectors in the old double connector and connect it using the single connector in the dension bag of parts. 2a vs 3a in the following diagram:

As mentioned I don't think instructions 3A apply to the BMW because the MOST BUS cannot handle two CDCs on it at the same time.

So that mean the Type #2b which the GW500 car side fiber plug to the car iDrive and GW500 CDC side fiber plug to the OEM CD changer then set the dip switches 1 & 2 ON (and 3-6 OFF) the only way, right?
